Vocation Prayers - Priesthood

A. Prayers of the Priests

Heavenly Father,
I come before You, humble and in awe of Your greatness,
Grateful for the sacred trust You have placed upon me.
As a servant of Your Word and a vessel of Your grace,
I seek Your strength and wisdom in all that I do.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You who called Your apostles to shepherd Your flock,
Grant me the courage to follow in their footsteps,
To teach, to guide, and to lead with love and compassion.
Let me be a reflection of Your light and truth to those who seek You.

Holy Spirit,
You who empower and sustain all those called to serve,
Fill me with Your gifts and the fire of Your presence.
Guide my words, my actions, and my heart,
That I may always walk in Your will,
And lead others to the peace and joy found in You.

Almighty God,
I pray for all those entrusted to my care—
The sick, the suffering, the lost, the weak.
Grant them healing, strength, and hope,
And through Your mercy, let them feel Your loving embrace.

May I be a faithful servant,
Not for my own glory, but for Your eternal Kingdom.
Help me to lead with humility,
To serve with joy,
And to pray always, knowing that You are ever with me.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Saints, and angels,
I offer this prayer in the name of Your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

B. Prayers for the Priests

ENGLISH

Prayer for Priests (1)

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests.
Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests to be strong in their vocation.
Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding,
and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel.
Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.
Amen.

Prayer for Priests (2)

O Jesus, our great High Priest,
hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests.
Give them a deep faith,
a bright and firm hope and a burning love
which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life.
In their loneliness, comfort them.
In their sorrows, strengthen them.
In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering
that the soul is purified,
and show them that they are needed by the Church;
they are needed by souls;
they are needed for the work of redemption.
Amen.

A Prayer for Priests (John Cardinal O'connor)

O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your sons who are close to you
because of their priestly ordination
and because of the power which they have received
to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs them so much.
Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength,
and especially help them to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy.

Lord Jesus, we your people pray to You for our priests.
You have given them to us for OUR needs.
We pray for them in THEIR needs.

We know that You have made them priests in the likeness of your own priesthood.
You have consecrated them, set them aside, anointed them,
filled them with the Holy Spirit, appointed them to teach, to preach,
to minister, to console, to forgive, and to feed us with Your Body and Blood.

Yet we know, too, that they are one with us and share our human weaknesses.
We know too that they are tempted to sin and discouragement as are we,
needing to be ministered to, as do we, to be consoled and forgiven, as do we.
Indeed, we thank You for choosing them from among us,
so that they understand us as we understand them,
suffer with us and rejoice with us, worry with us and trust with us,
share our beings, our lives, our faith.

We ask that You give them this day the gift You gave
Your chosen ones on the way to Emmaus:
Your presence in their hearts,
Your holiness in their souls,
Your joy in their spirits.
And let them see You face to face in the breaking of the Eucharistic bread.

We pray to You,
O Lord, through Mary the mother of all priests,
for Your priests and for ours. Amen.

Daily Offering to the Holy Trinity for Priests

Holy Blessed Trinity,
I offer You all my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day.
In reparation for holy priests.
For the conversion of priests. For more priests.
For the return of priests who have left the priesthood.
For the priests still in Purgatory, especially those most in need.
I offer myself this day as an offering for holy priests,
in union with the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus.
And in union with the Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus,
consecrated daily on all the altars of the world by your holy priests.
I make this offering through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Mother of Divine Love,
that she might take this imperfect prayer and present it to her Son, Jesus,
that through his Sacred Heart,
He might perfect it and present it to our Father by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for Priests

That all strive to become perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That Holy Mass be continually offered for the life and needs of the world:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That our Eucharistic Lord be accessible and lovingly adored:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That the Gospel be proclaimed tirelessly, free from error:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That in sacramental absolution we seek and find our peace and joy:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That unity in prayer bring about unity among all Christians:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That local Churches and their leaders be ever loyal to the Holy Father:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That all human life be protected and defended as sacred:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That God’s mercy extend daily to sinners, the dying and the souls in Purgatory:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That youth be helped to become free of drugs and all sinful addictions:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That prisoners, the elderly, the homeless find faith and hope in Christ:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That Christ’s love heal the lonely, the shut-ins and the sick:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That Christ be the goal and fulfillment of the young and the strong:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That the newly-ordained heed God’s call to lead the Church of the future:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.
That we promote true devotion to Mary, Mother of the Church:
Holy Spirit, make our priests holy.

Let Us Pray
God of mercy and holiness, hear the anguished cry of your people for holy priests to shepherd them. Fill their hearts with enlightened zeal that they minister worthily in your presence, be faithful to your Church always, and come at last to love You with an ever-ending love. We asl this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady for Priests

Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle
around your priests and through her intercession
strengthen them for their ministry.

We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words,
“Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5).

May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse.

May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross.

May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.

Saint John Vianney, pray for us.

St. Therese of Lisieux's Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, Eternal Priest,
keep your priests within the shelter of Your Sacred Heart,
where none may touch them.

Keep unstained their anointed hands,
which daily touch Your Sacred Body.

Keep unsullied their lips,
daily purpled with your Precious Blood.

Keep pure and unearthly their hearts,
sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood.

Let Your holy love surrounds them and
shield them from the world’s contagion.

Bless their labors with abundant fruit, and
may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here, and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.

Saint Faustina's Prayer for Holy Church and for Priests

O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church:
Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the words of priests,
so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord.

Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness.
O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere
and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares
which are continually being set for the souls of priests.

May the power of Your mercy, O Lord,
shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, f
or You can do all things.

I ask You, Jesus, for a special blessing
and for light for the priests before whom I will make my confessions throughout my lifetime. Amen.

Bantayi sila, kag dumduma O Ginoo
nga wala na sing para sa ila kundi Ikaw lamang.
Apang sila may tawhanon lamang nga taguipusoon
kag may kahuyang nga tawhanon man
Bantayi sila kag buhata nga mangin putli sila subong sang Ostyas
nga sa adlaw-adlaw nga tanan ila ginahalad.
Ang tagsa nila ka panghunahuna, pulong kag buhat, hatagi,
Mahal nga Ginoo, sang imo bendisyon. Amen.

Prayer for Vocation to the Priesthood

O Lord, my God, You renew the Church in every age
by raising up priests outstanding in holiness,
living witnesses of Your unchanging Love.
In Your Plan for our salvation You provide shepherds for Your people.
Fill the hearts of young men with the spirit of courage and love
that they may answer Your call generously.
Give parents the grace to encourage vocations
in their family by prayer and good example.
Raise up worthy priests for Your Altars and ardent,
but gentle servants of the Gospel.
Give the Church more priests and
keep them faithful in their love and service.
May many young men choose to serve You
by devoting themselves to the service of Your people.
Amen.

Prayers for Seminarians in Priestly Formation

Heavenly Father, we come before You as humble servants,
Called by Your grace to discern the sacred vocation of the priesthood.
In this time of formation, we seek Your guidance and strength,
That we may grow in holiness and in our love for You.

Lord Jesus, you who called Your disciples to be fishers of men,
Help us to listen attentively to Your voice.
Grant us the wisdom to understand Your Word,
The courage to live by it,
And the zeal to share it with others.

Holy Spirit, you who fill us with the gifts of wisdom, understanding,
counsel, and fortitude,
Come and strengthen us during this time of preparation.
Guide our hearts and minds to discern Your will,
And fill us with Your joy and peace as we grow in faith.

Lord, we ask for the grace to embrace this formation process fully,
For the patience to endure the challenges,
And the humility to accept the lessons You are teaching us.
Give us hearts of service,
Ready to pour out our lives for Your people,
With love and compassion,
Just as Christ did for us.

Bless our formation directors, professors, and all those who guide us,
That they may lead us with wisdom,
And help us grow in virtue and holiness.
May we always remain open to Your call,
And trust in Your providence, knowing that You are shaping us for a greater purpose.

We also lift up our families, our friends, and the Church,
Who support and pray for us.
May they be strengthened in their faith,
And may we be faithful witnesses to the love of Christ in all that we do.

We pray that one day,
As priests, we may serve You with all our hearts,
And lead Your people to encounter the transforming love of Your Son,
Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Seminarians – by Diocese of Corpus Christi

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Director in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps; so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom and heroes of sacrifice; steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man; apostles of Your glory and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us.

Rosary for Priests

This rosary meditation is focused on praying for priests and their ministry. The Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries are included below with specific intentions for priests and their vocations.

Joyful Mystery

Annunciation
We pray for all future priests now in the wombs of their mothers, that they may be safe from harm and one day come to ordination as God wills. We pray that all priests, like Mary, may serve God with complete abandonment in the spirit of poverty, chastity, and obedience.

Visitation
We pray especially for priests who bring Holy Communion to the sick and the shut-ins, and viaticum to the dying. We pray for priests who minister to the sick in other ways, by counseling, comforting and consoling. May their example of consuming charity and humble service lead them to intimate union with Christ.

Nativity of Jesus
We pray that the Infant Jesus may inspire all seminarians to grow in knowledge and love of God, and to become holy priests. We pray especially for those who will be ordained soon, that they may remain faithful all their lives to the sublime call and privilege of being “other Christs’ among us.

Presentation in the Temple
We thank God for all priests who, like Simeon, have given us decades of faithful service. We pray that they may be rewarded for their generosity and self-sacrifice. We pray also for all priests whose hearts are pierced by loneliness, rejection or misunderstanding.

Finding Jesus in the Temple
We pray that priests will always be found going about their Father’s business in fidelity to the teaching Magisterium of the Church, the Pope and all the bishops in communion with him. We pray that those priests who are experiencing a time of difficulty or even crisis may be renewed in their vocation.

Luminous Mystery

Baptism of Jesus
We pray that God will pour forth the Holy Spirit abundantly upon our priests so that they may always be beloved sons in whom the Father is well pleased. We pray that all priests realize their spiritual fatherhood as instruments of divine mercy, especially as assiduous confessors in the sacrament of reconciliation.

Wedding at Cana
We pray that priests will be devoted to Mary, the Mother of all priests, whose powerful intercession is the surest protection against Satan and his cohorts, who seek the ruin of priestly souls and the priesthood. We pray that priests may find in her the perfect model of their existence.

Proclamation of the Kingdom of God
We pray that priests may carry out Jesus’ instructions to evangelize the whole world, instructing and converting countless souls. We pray that missionaries, by their lives of utter poverty and deprivation, may bring the Gospel to all peoples. May God grant them the zeal necessary for this arduous task.

Transfiguration
We pray for the priests that have strayed from their primary ministry of caring for the salvation of souls. May they resist worldly temptations and attachments that distract them from the mission Christ intended for them, so that their souls will radiate like the sum before the people they serve.

Institution of the Holy Eucharist
We pray in thanksgiving to God for all priests who daily, through the celebration of Holy Mass, bring us the Body and Blood of Christ. Without them we would not have Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. May their example of reverence inspire in the faithful a greater faith, love and respect for the Eucharist Lord.

Sorrowful Mystery

Agony in the Garden
We pray that all priests who follow the footsteps of Christ to Calvary may be comforted by His presence; that those who have compromised the faith may repent and return to grace and truth. We pray for those who suffer from one kind of addiction or another, that they may be liberated and set free to follow the Lord faithfully.

Jesus is Scourged
We pray for priests who are persecuted or under religious oppression, those who are physically or verbally abused, those who are imprisoned or prevented from offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass or Holy Communion to the people. May Christ grant them courage, strength and perseverance to endure their sufferings.

Crowning with Thorns
We pray for priests who suffer for defending authentic Catholic doctrine. We pray that all bishops will uphold the true teachings of the Catholic Church and resist temptations to compromise doctrine in the face of cultural and social pressures. We pray that all priests may live only to do the Father’s will, as Jesus always did.

Jesus Carries His Cross
We pray for all priests who carry heavy crosses, for those who are weak or lonely, and those that have fallen from God’s grace in some way. We pray for the Holy Father, who perhaps has the heaviest cross: defending and upholding the faith amidst the widespread persecution and abandonment of the Church from within and without.

Jesus Dies on the Cross
We pray for all the priests who are in their las agony and for those who will die this way. We pray for priests who thirst for the salvation of souls. We pray that the daily immolation of their wills accomplish God’s design for the redemption of the whole world.

Glorious Mystery

Resurrection
At times priests may suffer from depression and despair when they see so little fruit from their labours. We pray that all priests will remember that the darkness of the Crucifixion is followed by the light of the Resurrection. May all priests share the joy of the risen Christ.

Ascencion
We pray for all priests in purgatory, that they may ascend with Christ to the glory of the Beatific Vision. We pray that those who toil on earth work faithfully until Christ comes again. May those priests that have lost their faith and trust in Jesus regain it with joy and abandonment.

Descent of the Holy Spirit
We pray that priests may be open to the graces of the Holy Spirit, that they be strengthened for the task of bringing souls to God. We pray they may be on fire to convert even the most hardened sinners and to bring God’s love to the whole world. May they preach courageously and convincingly the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Assumption of Mary
We pray that priests will grow in holiness through fervent prayer and penance, so that they may become a resounding witness to Christ and His Gospel, as stewards of the mysteries of God. We pray that all priests will have peaceful and holy deaths, and join the Church triumphant in heaven.

Coronation of Mary
We pray that Mary, Queen of the clergy, will be for all priests a model of faith and joy, and a constant guide on their journey to heaven, where a crown, bejeweled with the any souls they have brought to salvation since their ordination, will be their reward for faithful service.

Exposition
O Victim bringing saving grace,
who open wide the gate of heav’n:

To you be everlasting praise
and glory, One and Triune Lord,
who grant us life that knows no end,
for ever in our heav’nly home. Amen.

The Blessed Sacrament is placed on the altar. The presiding minister then kneels before the altar and incenses the Blessed Sacrament. The opening hymn is concluded and a period of silent prayer follows.

OPENING PRAYER
The presiding minister then goes to the chair, where he prays one of the following opening prayers:

A:
LORD Jesus Christ, (cf. Pastores Dabo Vobis, 1)
you promised always to give your Church shepherds.
In faith, we know your promise cannot fail.
Trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the Church,
we pray you raise up sacred ministers from your holy people,
that the sacrifice in which you give your body and blood
may be daily renewed in the world until we come to that kingdom
where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

B:
LORD, hear the prayers of your people (cf. Roman Missal, Mass for Priestly Vocations)
gathered here before you.
By this sacrament of love
bring to maturity
the seeds you have sown
in the field of your Church;
may many of your people choose to serve you
by devoting themselves to the service of their brothers and sisters.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

After a period of silent prayer, the Liturgy of the Word begins.

LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading
A reading from the first Book of Samuel
3:1-10
LFM 857.3

Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.
During the time young Samuel was minister to the Lord under Eli,
a revelation of the Lord was uncommon and vision infrequent.
One day Eli was asleep in his usual place.
His eyes had lately grown so week that he could not see.
The lamp of God was not yet extinguished,
and Samuel was sleeping in the temple of the Lord
where the ark of God was.

The LORD called to Samuel, who answered, Here I am.
Samuel ran to Eli and said, Here I am. You called me.
I did not call you, Eli said. Go back to sleep.
So he went back to sleep.
Again the LORD called Samuel, who rose and went to Eli.
Here I am, he said. You called me.
But Eli answered, I did not call you, my son. Go back to sleep.

At that time Samuel was not familiar with the LORD,
because the LORD had not revealed anything to him as yet.
The LORD called to Samuel again, for the third time.
Getting up and going to Eli, he said, Here I am. You called me.
Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth.
So he said to Samuel, Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply,
Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.
When Samuel went to sleep in his place,
the LORD came and revealed his presence,
calling out as before, Samuel, Samuel!
Samuel answered, Speak, for your servant is listening.

The word of the LORD.

All: Thanks be to God

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 16
1-2a and 5, 7-8, 11
LFM 859

R. You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge;
I say to the Lord, ,My Lord are you.
O Lord, my allotted portion and my cup.
you it is who hold fast to my lot.

R. You are my inheritance, O Lord.

I bless the Lord who counsels me;
even in the night my heart extorts me.
I set the Lord ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.

R. You are my inheritance, O Lord.

You will show me the path of life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.

R. Guide me Lord, along the everlasting way.

After a period of silent prayer.
Gospel Acclamation

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

I chose you from the world, go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord.

GOSPEL
+ A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

1:35-42
LFM 861.7

Follow me
John was standing with two of his disciples,
and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God.”
The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.
Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them,
“What are you looking for?”
They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher),
“where are you staying?”
He said to them, “Come, and you will see.”
So they went and saw where he was staying,
and they stayed with him that day.
It was about four in the afternoon.
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter,
was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.
He first found his own brother Simon and told him,
“We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Christ.)
Then he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said,
“You are Simon son of John;
you will be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God

HOMILY
At the conclusion of the last reading a priest or a deacon preaches the homily followed by a period of silent prayer.

INTERCESSIONS
Standing at the chair, the presiding minister invites the people to pray:
Presiding Minister:
God chooses those whom He wills, let us pray the Lord to send forth workers into his vineyard:

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As you called Abram to be the father of many nations, inspire young people to answer your call.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As you called Moses, tending the flocks of Jethro, provide worthy pastors to your flock in our day.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As you called Aaron to serve your temple, call men to serve your Church in the image of Christ.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As you spoke to awake Samuel with your call, open the ears of your chosen ones.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As every High Priest was taken from among men, so call men to offer the holy and living sacrifice.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As Elisha was anointed by the prophet Elijah, give those you call strength to follow you without looking back.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

Deacon or other Minister:
As you called the Apostles to be ambassadors for Christ, so sends us fervent preachers to strengthen our spirits.

All: Lord, we trust in you.

READING
The following reading may be read by a minister:

Pastores Dabo Vobis
The Church should daily take up Jesus’ persuasive and demanding invitation to “pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Mt. 9:38). Obedient to Christ’s command, the Church first of all makes a humble profession of faith: In praying for vocations, conscious of her urgent need of them for her very life and mission, she acknowledges that they are a gift of God and, as such, must be asked for by a ceaseless and trusting prayer of petition.

In addition, the liturgy, as the summit and source of the Church’s existence (cf. Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 10) and in particular of all Christian prayer, plays an influential and indispensable role in the pastoral work of promoting vocations. The liturgy is a living experience of God’s gift and a great school for learning how to respond to his call.

In carrying out her prophetic role, the Church feels herself irrevocably committed to the task of proclaiming and witnessing to the Christian meaning of vocation, or as we might say, to “the Gospel of vocation.” Here too, she feels the urgency of the apostle’s exclamation: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Cor. 9:16)

After a period of silent prayer:
LITANY OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST
Lord, have mercy.
R. Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
R. Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
R. Lord, have mercy.
“The Bread that I will give is my flesh for the life world” Jn 6:51
R. My Lord and my God!

“My flesh is food indeed and my Blood is drink indeed” Jn 6:55

R. My Lord and my God!
“Take this, all of you and eat it: This is my Body which will be given up for you,
This is the cup of my Blood, the Blood of the new and everlasting covenant” Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I)

R. My Lord and my God!
“The cup of blessing that we bless ‹ it is not the sharing of the Blood of Christ?
And the bread that we break ‹ Is it not the partaking of the Body of the Lord?” 1 Cor. 10:16

R. My Lord and my God!
“[Heretics] abstain from the Eucharist, because they do not believe that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who suffered for our sins and who the Father in his bounty raised up again.” Saint Ignatius of Antioch

R. My Lord and my God!
“[This Eucharist] has been blessed by the word of prayer instituted by Him, and from it our flesh and blood by assimilation are nourished. This, we are taught, is both the flesh and blood of Jesus incarnate.” Saint Justin Martyr

R. My Lord and my God!
“The seeming bread is not bread, though sensible to taste, but the Body of Christ; and the seeming wine is not wine, though the taste would have it so, but the Blood of Christ.” Saint Cyril of Jerusalem

R. My Lord and my God!
“You ought so to partake at the Holy Table as to have no doubt at all concerning the reality of the body and blood of Christ. For what is taken in the mouth is that which is believed by faith, and it is vain for them to respond ,Amen, who dispute against that which is taken.” Saint Leo the Great

R. My Lord and my God!

“Sight, touch, taste are each thee deceived; hearing alone safely is believed.” Saint Thomas Aquinas

THE LORD’S PRAYER
The presiding minister then sings or says:

Now let us offer together the prayer our Lord Jesus Christ taught us:

All: Our Father,

BENEDICTION
At the conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, the presiding minister goes to the altar, genuflects, and then kneels. As he kneels, the following hymn at Benediction is sung and he incenses the Blessed Sacrament:

Let us, therefore, bow and worship
such a wondrous Sacrament;
let the ancient law and custom
to a newer rite now yield;
let our faith supply conviction
where the senses tire and fail.

To the Father, unbegotten,
and the Sole-begotten Son,
be salvation, blessing, honor,
jubilation, power, and praise;
to the One from both proceeding
equal glory and renown. Amen.

Hymn
Tantum ergo Sacraméntum
venerémur cérnui,
et antíquum documéntum
novo cedat rítui;
præstet fides suppleméntum
sénsuum deféctui.

Genitóri Genitóque

salus, honor, virtus quoque
sit et benedíctio;
procedénti ab utróque
compar sit laudátio. Amen.

After the hymn is finished, he rises and sings or says:

Let us pray.

After a brief period of silence, The presiding minister continues:

No. 98
O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament
have left us a memorial of your Passion,
grant us, we pray,
so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood
that we may always experience in ourselves
the fruits of your redemption.
Who live and reign for ever and ever.

Or: No. 224.
Lord God, we believe and confess
that Jesus Christ, who was born for us of the Virgin Mary
and suffered on the Cross,
is present in the Sacrament;
grant that we may draw from this divine wellspring
the gift of eternal salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or: No. 225.
Grant us, we pray, Lord God,
to celebrate with worthy praises
the Lamb who was slain for us
and is hidden in this Sacrament,
so that we may be worthy to contemplate him
when he is revealed in glory.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Or: No. 226.
O God,
who have given us the true Bread from heaven,
grant, we pray,
that by the power of this spiritual food,
we may always live in you
and rise in glory on the Last Day.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or: No. 227.
Enlighten our hearts, O Lord,
with the light of faith
and kindle in them the fire of love,
that we may confidently adore in spirit and in truth
him whom we acknowledge in this Sacrament
to be our Lord and God.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Or: No. 228.
May the Sacraments
by which you have been pleased to restore us, Lord,
fill our hearts with the sweetness of your love
and make us long for the unfathomable riches of your Kingdom.
Through Christ our Lord.

Or: No. 229.
O God, who by the Paschal Mystery of Christ
have redeemed the whole world,
preserve in us the work of your mercy,
so that, ever honoring the mystery of our salvation,
we may merit to obtain its fruits.
Through Christ our Lord.

After the prayer, the presiding minister puts on the humeral veil, genuflects, and takes the monstrance. He makes the sign of the cross with the monstrance over those gathered, in silence.
REPOSITION
After the blessing the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the monstrance and brought to the place of reservation. Meanwhile, the presiding minister may lead those assembled in the Divine Praises. Each acclamation is repeated by all together.

Blessed be God.
Blessed be his holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be his most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most holy Sacrament of the altar.
